Hermione works on a supermarket checkout till in North London, but she also has an incredible knack of writing dark and disturbing stories. Each one has a twist that feels like a punch in the plexus.

I met her by accident in the city of Bath, when she asked me what breed Totty my dog is. Somehow, she ended up emailing me some stories. One about vampires, one about revenge, one about surgery and self-help. 

I ended up completely blown away by her twisted imagination. 

It's hard to describe how good it is. Honestly, I feel everyone would connect with it if they gave it a chance because it is so raw and believable. 

It's a challenge to deal with because in the mainstream press, a black woman writer is expected to write about race. She doesn't. And tell me how many horror / thriller writers you know who have her profile? None, right? She's exceptional. 

 She's almost done her first collection of stories, called 'Black Thoughts.' It's great.
